ShopFlow — E-Commerce Platform
ShopFlow needed a complete ground-up rebuild of their legacy monolithic platform. They were losing $2M/month in abandoned carts due to slow load times and a broken mobile checkout experience.
The Problem
The existing platform was built on a 10-year-old Ruby on Rails monolith. Page load times averaged 8.2 seconds. Mobile users had a 91% bounce rate. The checkout funnel had 9 steps with no guest checkout option. The development team spent 60% of their time maintaining legacy infrastructure rather than shipping new features.
Our Solution
We migrated to a Next.js App Router architecture with server-side rendering for SEO-critical pages and client-side hydration for dynamic content. We introduced a micro-frontend architecture allowing independent deployments. The checkout was rebuilt as a 2-step process with guest checkout and one-click upsells powered by Stripe Payment Element.
Architecture & Technical Approach
The system uses a BFF (Backend for Frontend) pattern with a Next.js API layer talking to microservices. Redis caches product catalog and session data. PostgreSQL handles transactional data with read replicas for analytics queries. Static assets are served via CloudFront CDN.

Results & Impact
Increased checkout conversions by 340% within 90 days of launch
Key Learnings
Server components significantly reduced JavaScript bundle size. Redis caching for product listings eliminated 90% of database queries under peak load. Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) was the key to balancing freshness with performance for product pages.
