MedTrack — Healthcare Patient Portal
MedTrack partnered with us to build a HIPAA-compliant patient engagement platform that would reduce administrative overhead and improve patient outcomes through better communication and self-service tools.
The Problem
The clinic network was managing 47,000 patients across 12 locations using disconnected spreadsheets and a 15-year-old scheduling system. Staff spent 3.5 hours per day on phone tag for appointments. No-show rates were 34%, costing $180,000/month in lost revenue.
Our Solution
We built a cross-platform mobile app (iOS + Android) with a companion web portal. Patients can book, reschedule, and cancel appointments in real-time. SMS reminders via Twilio reduced no-shows. Secure messaging replaced phone calls. Lab results are delivered digitally with plain-language explanations.
Architecture & Technical Approach
HIPAA-compliant infrastructure on AWS with encrypted data at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). MongoDB Atlas with field-level encryption for PHI. Role-based access control with detailed audit logging. Twilio for SMS notifications with opt-out compliance.

Results & Impact
Patient portal engagement increased 80% and appointment no-shows dropped by 55%
Key Learnings
HIPAA compliance architecture must be designed from day one — retrofitting it is extremely costly. Patient-facing UX must be radically simple; the user base spans ages 8-90. SMS outperforms email for appointment reminders by a factor of 4.
